Sam Rogerson, Co-Founder/Head of School

Former media executive, project manager and creative, Sam is also part of third-generation owner/operators, Cottesmore School, a private Prep school in Sussex. Brought up in this educational environment, Sam supported the school’s business function from 2013-2016, simultaneously researching innovation in education for an MBA. Sam became an Acton Academy affiliate in early 2018, having observed and worked with emerging educational systems around the world and in the UK.

Aaron Stewart – Advisor

Co-founded QV Education in 2014 and now co-Proprietor of Boundary Oak School. Headhunter in Fixed Income and Commodities Markets in HK and London from 2000 to 2010. Co-founded the Pemberton Stewart executive search firm in HK in 2007. Returned to the UK in 2010, became non-exec at Pemberton Stewart in 2014 to focus 100% on QV Education. Lives with his young family in Hampshire.

Will Orr-Ewing – Advisor

Will was a history teacher at a London preparatory school before setting up Keystone Tutors in 2007. Keystone is now one of the UK’s leading tutoring organisations, with offices in Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Singapore. Will has been an active participant in UK education debates, appearing on Newsnight, The Today Programme and at the Wellington Festival of Education. He has been a Trustee of two Free Schools and is on the Board of the Harrow Association. He co-runs a free website on learning difficulties called dysTalk.

John Baumber, Advisor

John is Lexicon’s key advisor and is tasked with steering Lexicon on how to adapt the Acton approach for the UK. John has a long, distinguished and continuing career in education as teacher and Head and currently serves as Director of Education UK for Swedish Free School operator Kunskapsskolan and Trustee of Whole Education UK. John is a keen advocate of student agency and runs the Student Agency In Learning (SAIL) program for 200 schools across the UK.

Jeff Sandefer, Advisor

Jeff is an entrepreneur, Socratic teacher and co-founder of Acton Academy. As an entrepreneur, he started his first company aged 16 and most recently sold Sandefer Capital, an energy investment firm with several billion dollars in assets.

As a teacher, he co-founded the Acton School of Business, a school dedicated to America’s next generation of entrepreneurs and famous for its 100-hour work weeks.ThePrinceton Reviewhas consistently ranked Acton’s teachers, students, and program among the best in the country. While at the University of Texas, Jeff’s students voted him the school’s Most Outstanding Teacher five times and Businessweeknamed him as one of the top entrepreneurship professors in America. He also co-founded Acton Academy and serves as a middle school lead guide.

Laura Sandefer, Advisor

Laura is co-founder and head of school of Acton Academy.

Raised by a science teacher and minister, Laura studies at Vanderbilt University for her undergraduate studies in the College of Arts and Science.

After working in London and New York City in the aviation insurance business, Laura followed her heart into the world of teaching, attending Vanderbilt’s renowned Peabody College and receiving her Master of Education. Married to Jeff Sandefer with two sons and a stepdaughter, it is the inspiration of these children that led Laura and Jeff to cofound Acton.

Her greatest hero is her late mother, a master teacher. Her wisest mentor is her father, who sent her off to college with two words of advice: “Be curious.”
